One of the most embarrassing moments of my life happened when I was in my early teens. My father had moved to Oklahoma for a new job and the rest of my family were to follow after. My mom hired a neighborhood teen boy (a few years older than me) to mow our yard while my dad was gone. There were several people that came through our house to look at it while it was on the market. Before each showing my mother would walk around the house and clean and open all the windows. My bedroom was on ground level so natural light from the windows really got into my room well.
I rushed home from school one day to change my clothes and go out with friends. I got to my bedroom, undressed to my underwear and bra and then felt something strange — like someone looking at me. I quickly realized that the lawnmower that was running in the backyard was at an idle. I turned to look at my window and to my dismay the blinds were wide open and the neighbor boy was watching me undress through the window!!!! I SCREAMED and darted behind my bed! Startled, he continued to mow the yard. I waited until I heard the mower far away from my window, crawled over and shut the blinds.
When I was finished changing and getting ready I heard the doorbell ring. I thought it was my friend, so I ran upstairs and opened the door. It was him! He looked at me nervously and said, “I just came to get my check.” I looked at him with the stare of death and replied, “Haven’t you already been paid?!” He nodded and left. My mom never did ask about why he refused payment that week. Well, Mom, now you know.
Lesson: Make sure the windows are covered before you undress. Ha ha ha ha ha!
