I love the dairy farm! Jake’s cousin helps his cousin run a dairy. It’s covered in cows and cats, the two best things to have on a farm! I wish I lived there so it didn’t look so random when I show up just to visit the cows. Because it’s a dairy, there are always calves, too. Down in one of the barns, there was a baby barn owl for a little while that I loved to spy on. A few times, in the fall, I took the kids up there to help do potatoes. We followed the tractor along and filled sleds and trucks full.
Seven years later, I still feel silly when I show up. Not just because my visit is always unannounced but because sometimes I bring presents. I like to test different snacks to see what the calves will try. Cheetos. Clear winner.
I always take a million pictures, sometimes a video, and even a few Facebook lives or Marco Polos. I’m sure everyone has to be as interested as I am in what’s going on at the dairy. I think the humans there are finally getting used to my odd-ball behavior.
The baby went for her first visit. All bundled up, I tried to show her each of the eighteen calves and some of the mamas. Her nose turned red but she feigned interest. Just wait until I can put muck boots on and let her loose. She’s going to love it!
I know this is a funny place to love, but I really do! Just look at those faces! I’m excited every time I get the chance to go back.
I’d love to know about your favorite place! Really! Please leave a comment and tell me where you love to go!
